Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy (2011)
Directed by Tomas Alfredson
Starring Gary Oldman, Colin Firth and Tom Hardy
Based on the John Le Carre novel of the same name the film centres on a veteran agent, played by Gary Oldman, who is assigned to find out who the mole in MI6 is. The mole is narrowed down to four senior operatives and it is from there that the film focuses on.
Based in the early 70’s the film looks fantastic and really gives you that 70’s feel from the clothes to the cars. The acting from everyone is brilliant and it is too hard to name one stand out performance. However I felt that the film was very slow paced with not much actually happening. This is supposed to be a drama/ thriller but it just lacks the killer punch to make it enjoyable. The films runtime is 127 minutes and it feels it.
With all the big stars maybe I was expecting more excitement and a faster pace. I can understand why people would enjoy this but for me it would be a no.
Film Fact
Gary Oldman was offered a gray-haired wig to wear for his role, but declined it in favour of bleaching his hair for a more natural hairdo for a middle-aged persona like Smiley
