I love cinema. I love films. I appreciate the medium, I admire the art and I am a fan. I enjoy films that are powerful, that tell a story well and carry a message. But sometimes  I want something different. Something where I know what I’m going to get, I know that I don’t have to follow closely or intently as I try to interpret deeper meanings. A film where I can see people being heroic and blowing things up as it’s The Right Thing To Do. A film where it’s gleeful nonsense but carries no pretence of anything else. The latest Battleship trailer promises all of these things, with Liam Neeson thrown in to add gravitas and you know what? It might be a rubbish film in the great pantheon of cinema but it looks good fun.

And that my friends, is sometimes what I’m after.
