Resident Evil: Retribution (2012)
Directed by Paul W.S Anderson
Starring Milla Jovovich, Sienna Guillory and Michelle Rodriguez
Milla Jovovich returns as Alice for her 5th Resident Evil film and nothing has changed. She is still fighting the Umbrella Corporation and the undead.
The story takes place in a virtual testing facility and the aim is to get out of there in the given time frame while battling all sorts of zombies, making it feel like it could be a game you are playing.
It seems that with each film in the series they try to incorporate a character from the game and in this one they introduce us to Leon S. Kennedy, Ada Wong and Barry Burton as well as having Jill Valentine back again. The character of Leon is very week and the guy playing him is a bit wet. Ada Wong is another character that is acted quite badly and not given much screen time. Barry Burton might not look as plump as he does in the games but other than that he is a good representation of the classic game character but definitely wasn’t given as much screen time as he should of had.
The zombies look good and so do the executioners but the battle and fight scenes come across a little boring, much like all the other films. I have
enjoyed all the films but they are just something you can put on without thinking about anything else. If only they had started the films by following the actual games then they could of been more interesting. This was enjoyable in parts and great that we finally got to see Barry. Wait for it to come out for rental and you should give it a watch, if only for the classic game characters.
TheFriedGold rating – 2/5 – The appearance of Barry gives this film a 2 rating
Film Fact
We have now had Chris Redfield, Claire Redfield, Jill Valentine, Leon S. Kennedy, Wesker, Barry Burton, Ada Wong and Carlos Oliveira. Will we see anyone else in future films? Sheva? Rebecca? Josh? Sherry?
After playing resi 6 (or at least the Chris/Piers story. I kinda want to see Piers turn up just so we can see his story. Its pretty intresting in my opinion.
