Fast and Furious 6

When a gang of criminals, who are being helped by Letty, strike Hobbs must locate the only man who can help, Dominic Toretto, and get him to bring his team back together.

The film has a slightly different feel to it when compared to the others as they are not stealing anything; they are helping out a Special Forces team capture the bad guys. The film is mainly set in London and while it was cool to see fast cars charging around the streets of London for an organised street race it’s not very believable.

A couple of other things that niggled away at me were how poor the Police were made to look in the Underground station fight, the amount of people that must of died when the tank was running over what seemed to be every car on the road, yet no one said anything, and most of all the plane that must have been on the longest runway in the world.

Now I know it is just a film that is made for entertainment purposes and I shouldn’t look at the contents in such a serious manner and should just look at it as a popcorn/turn off your brain flick. So by going by that thinking the film was enjoyable and being the sixth instalment you know what you are going to get. Also the teaser just at the end of the film for number 7 will probably drag most people back to this franchise.

If you enjoy cars, tanks, fighting, gun battles, over the top action sequences and the other Furious films then I would recommend this to you although you could wait for it to be released on the small screen.

TheFriedGold rating – 5/10 – An enjoyable ‘turn your brain off’ film

G.I Joe: Retaliation

G.I Joe: Retaliation (2013)

Directed by John M. Chu

Starring Channing Tatum, Dwayne Johnson, Adrianne Palicki and Bruce Willis

The president of the United States is not who he says he is and has tried to eliminate all Joes from action so that COBRA can take over the world. Unfortunately for them a few Joes made it out alive and are coming to return the world back to its rightful leaders.

This is a direct sequel to Rise of the Cobra although many of the actors or characters from the first film have not returned. This has not dampened the film though as they have replaced them with a couple of big names, notably Dwayne Johnson and Bruce Willis.

The film is exactly what you would expect with some big action scenes and lots of bullets being fired. Johnson always adds that bit of humour to film not to mention his cool, yet cheesy, presence on screen and this is no difference. Willis has little screen time but the scenes he does appear in gives us some classic Willis one liners and wit.

This was an enjoyable film that just flew passed when watching. I wouldn’t say it was anything special and you don’t need to see it in the cinema but when it is released to rent/buy I recommend a watch. (This really only applies to men, women probably won’t enjoy)

Film Fact

The film was originally supposed to be release in the summer of 2012 but was put back to add 3D effects. This however turned out to be only part of the truth; some reshoots were done to have Channing Tatum in more scenes as the studio felt it would draw in a larger audience since he became a big hit in the film world.
