Things haven’t been the same for Tony Stark since the events that happened in Avenger Assemble. He is having trouble sleeping and spends his time messing around with his Iron Man suits. But when a mad man by the name of The Mandarin starts blowing stuff up and makes things personal Tony Stark must overcome his issues to save the world.

As a fan of all the Phase 1 films this makes a very good start to Phase 2 with Tony Stark being the class act that he is while taking on one of his biggest comic book enemies The Mandarin. The trailers that came out before the film did show an awful lot of the story and some of the coolest bits in the film. It was interesting, beforehand, to see how they would avoid all of the other Avengers and why he wouldn’t just pick up the phone and ask for help but it actually works and you sort of forget that the others are not that far away. Plus I suppose that being the type of character that Tony is he wouldn’t want to ask for help anyway.

While watching the film there were scenes that made me think of the Lethal Weapon series, in which director Shane Black had a hand in making.

Recommend

There were a lot of comedic elements to the film and the introduction of a kid sidekick made the film feel a little bit like it was aiming for a younger audience. However this is Iron Man and is great fun throughout. Do you need to have seen all of the other Phase 1 films before this? No probably not. It would work as a standalone film. But then my question would be why haven’t you seen all the others. We have a long way to go in Phase 2 not to mention Phase 3 and this was a solid start.

Post Credit scene – as with all of the Marvel films of recent there is a scene to stick around for after the credits

TheFriedGold rating – 7/10A strong Iron start to Phase 2

Film Fact

The song heard at Bern in the beginning of the film is “Blue” by Eiffel 65. This song is about an encounter with aliens, and foreshadows Tony Stark encountering alien beings in Avengers Assemble.

Time to suit up. We have an Iron Man 3 Trailer

The next Marvel release, Iron Man 3, has a trailer which was released today and shows Tony Stark in a spot of trouble, much to do with the arrival of classic villian The Mandarin. Since The Avengers (Avengers Assemble) all I’ve wanted and I’m sure many others is too see the next Marvel film. Lets just hope this stands up to what we are all expecting, more Iron Man, less Iron Man 2 (although i didnt mind it that much).

Announced at Comic-Con yesterday, July 14th, were the titles of the next Marvel offerings of Thor and Captain America. There was also some concept art released for Guardians of the Galaxy and some test footage of Edgar Wrights Ant-Man. On the DC side of things we had the first poster reveal of the next Superman film.

Thor 2 is now officially called Thor: The Dark World and will be released on 11th August 2013

Captain America 2 is now officially called Captain America: The Winter Soldier and will be released on 4th March 2014

Guardians of the Galaxy will be released on 1st August 2014

Edgar Wright’s Ant-Man currently does not have a release date but with Edgar doing it you know it is going to be epic.

And lets not forget Iron Man 3 which is due for release on 3rd May 2013

Here is the first Man of Steel poster. With this now finally released and some footage shown at Comic-Con the rumours coming out are that we will be getting the first trailer run in front of The Dark Knight Rises which would make sense as they are both DC properties. Man of Steel is due to be released on 13th June 2013
